NAPLES, Fla. - Thirteen days after Fox 4 started asking why a Collier County ambulance crew waited five minutes to leave the station after being dispatched to a 911 emergency and we still don't have any answers.
Fox 4 is not giving up on behalf of a distraught Naples family who just wants answers after their son went into cardiac arrest and died more than a month ago.
We have been pressing Collier County EMS officials for answers for nearly two weeks after the Minard family says EMS officials told them behind closed doors that a "glitch" caused an ambulance delay.
When we asked Collier EMS Chief Walter Kopka about that glitch last month he would only tell us they were investigating the delay and we would have answers by Jan. 25.
Since then the county has refused to answer our questions or even take our phone calls. Remember, we're trying to find out why an ambulance 3.5 miles away that was dispatched at 11:04 a.m didn't leave the station until 11:10 a.m. - six minutes later - and why nobody apparently checked to make sure the crew left the station.
Minard says he feels like he is being brushed off.
"I don't think what we're asking for right now is a whole lot," said Charles Minard, crying. "I just want to know what happened to my son and why they couldn't be there when they needed to be. I don't think that's so much to ask."
Fox 4 reached out to the Collier County commissioners Tuesday to see what they think of EMS' lack of response to us and the Minard family.
We did not hear back from any of them.
