Crime down in Fort Myers despite increase in murders
FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Fort Myers Police Department submitted its crime statistics for 2012 to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for review.
Overall crime fell 18.2% last year compared to 2011. Burglaries and thefts were down dramatically while the city saw four more murders in 2012 than it recorded in 2011.
Chief Baker is encouraged by the numbers but remains concerned about the number of murders in the City. “Drug related violence is the biggest trigger and we are partnering with the community and other law enforcement agencies in an effort to stop the violence.”
Below is a breakdown of crime for 2012 and 2011.
