NAPLES, Fla. - "I have pickleball it-is!"

Stephanie Lane is a P-E coach from Tennessee, and while she's not teaching sports to kids, she's competing.

"My tennis coach, who's passed away now, she taught me the sport, im playing for her today"

She made it to the finals, and came in second against two time national champion jennifer lucore.

Im on cloud nine, i don't even need a plane to take me home to Tennessee"

The sport is played on half of a tennis court, making it ideal for athletes with injuries.

It's just easier to cover, you don't have to take as many steps"

Director nancy meyer says the game is typically popular with the 50 and over crowd, but as interest has grown, so has the age range of competitors

"Now theyre starting to teach it in the high schools, and elementary schools, and we're opening the tournament to 16 and above"

"Its just addicting, so i hope people go out and try it, it's a lot of fun".
