Connecticut man drowns at Marco Island's Mackle Park
MARCO ISLAND, Fla. - A 61-year-old Connecticut man drowned Monday at Mackle Park on Marco Island.
First responders arrived just before 5 p.m. after receiving a report about a man swimming in the lake. Two witnesses say they spotted a swimmer in distress and tried to rescue him.
Witnesses say Dean Pfeil using a remote control boat on the lake when it got stuck. Pfeil swam out to retrieve the boat and disappeared in the murky waters.
It took almost a half hour to find Pfeil. He was taken to Physicians Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Marco Island Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding Pfeil's death.
