Fake prescriptions lead to Port Charlotte arrest
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Charlotte County Sheriff's deputies arrested a Port Charlotte woman after she called in fraudulent prescriptions.
Deputies arrested 51-year-old Kimberly Ann Haley when she went through a drive-through to pick them up. Haley faces two counts of prescription fraud.
The Walgreen’s pharmacist at 1800 Tamiami Trail told deputies he got the phoned in prescriptions Friday for Mobic, Tramadol and Cymbalta, but could not fill the milligram strength for the Cymbalta, so he called the doctor’s office.
The pharmacist learned that the prescriptions called in were not done by anyone employed there and Haley was not being treated by the doctor. The pharmacist then called CCSO advising Haley had called and inquired about her prescriptions and was en route to the store to get them.
Deputies checked information for Haley and obtained her address and that she owned a blue Chrysler and got the tag number. Deputies waited next door at the Chick-Fil-A parking lot and observed Haley’s vehicle pull up to the Walgreen’s drive through.
Deputies met with Haley and advised her of the prescription fraud case. She began crying and said she was the one who called in the fraudulent prescriptions posing as “Sharon” of the doctor’s office. She said she knew the doctor through a former job as a nurse. She also said she has no health insurance and posed as the doctors employee to get her medications.
Haley was arrested and taken to the Charlotte County Jail; she posted at $5,000 bond and was released.
