A nightclub fire kills more than 230 people
BRAZIL - A fire breaks out inside a night club early Sunday morning in the southern Brazilian city of Santa Maria.
At least 232 people are dead, most as a result of smoke inhalation. Some were burned alive, others trampled to death as many raced for the building's sole exit.
Grief filled relatives are now tasked with claiming the bodies of their loved ones. All of the victims have been brought to a nearby gymnasium.
Survivors of the ordeal have been taken to area hospitals for treatment. Medical workers say it will take time to recover from such a tragedy.
Brazil's President has paid a visit to the morgue and says the federal government will do everything necessary to help the victims families.
