High wire artist, Nik Wallenda, performs stunt in Sarasota

SARASOTA, Fla.- The high wire walker who stunned the world as he walked across Niagara Falls is back at it again!
This time he will thrill his hometown in Sarasota. He will be 200 feet up in the air as he starts at Bayfront Park near the iconic "Unconditional Surrender" statues next to U.S. 41 and ends at the Marina Tower Condominium. He won't wear a safety harness. This stunt will take place Tuesday at 10:30.
Nik Wallenda is use to walking a very fine line.
"You have to remain focus and realize that no matter how small or how large the walk is still a lot of danger," said Wallenda.
This past summer the world watched as he walked across the roaring Niagara Falls. A 25 minute stunt, 200 feet up in the air. Nik admits to me that the years leading up to it were tough. Laws that banned daredevil stunts had to be changed.
"Probably the biggest challenge was trying to get permission to walk across Niagara Falls. We had to change 2 laws in 2 countries over 100 years old in order to do so. "
Most called the stunt unachievable, impossible and obviously dangerous, but Nik says his great grandfather said it best, "Life is on the wire. Everything else is just waiting."
"That's very true for me. I love being on the write, love performing," said Wallenda.
Nik is back at it again. The Sarasota native will perform in shows for Circus Sarasota through Friday, February 15th. The Circus Sarasota Big Top is located across from Ed Smith Stadium, near the intersection of Tuttle Avenue and 12th Street in Sarasota.
Nik's "Sarasota Skywalk" is scheduled for Tuesday, January 29 at 10:30am. It is free to the public.
Nik hopes his walks inspire others to never give up.
"That's something my great grandfather always taught the family was never give up and that's something I am carrying on," said Wallenda.
Nik's great grandfather died at the age of 73 after falling during a wire walk in Puerto Rico.
