Facebook tipster helps catch Port Charlotte burglary suspect

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Charlotte County detectives arrested a Port Charlotte man for a car burglary and purse theft, thanks to a tip received after viewing surveillance photos on the CCSO Facebook page.
51-year-old Tony Curtis Goforth faces charges of grand theft and burglary of a conveyance.
On December 20 an employees of a CVS in Port Charlotte reported her Ford Edge SUV in the parking lot had a window smashed out and her purse covered by a sweater on the floor of the car was stolen.
Surveillance video produced photos of the suspect and a press release with photos was sent to the media and also put on the CCSO website and the CCSO Facebook for the public to help identify.
A tipster contacted CCSO detectives on a possible identity of the man shown in the store surveillance photo; there was also surveillance video of the subject riding his bicycle in the parking lot. On Jan. 24, detectives located and interviewed Goforth about the incident. Goforth said he goes to CVS on his bicycle frequently on his way to pay his bail bondsman.
Detectives showed Goforth the video of him purchasing a grape flavored cigar and he said it was him. Goforth was then shown outside video of him riding his bicycle around the Ford Edge that was broken into and also shows him with the victim’s purse in his right hand.
He finally admitted it was the victim’s purse. He said he took the cash and gave the purse to someone else Goforth was arrested and taken to the Charlotte County Jail where he remains on no bond.
