NAPLES, Fla.- Collier County School District is making some changes when it comes to dismissal procedures.

Shadowlawn Elementary started these new changes this week.

Brooke Trupiano, a mother of 3, use to park at a nearby church and walk across the street to her daughter's elementary school to pick her up, but recently the school said she can't do that anymore.

"Alot of people parked at that church to walk over and get their kids especially ones that have infants or smaller children because they don''t have time to wait," said Trupiano.

Shadowlawn Elementary in Naples says all parents must now wait in the car pick-up line. They recently increased pick-up lanes from 1 to 2 to cut back on wait time. School board member Pat Carroll said the change came after the principal and district discussed safety and this move prevents parents and kids from walking back and forth on a busy street.

"Students were walking through the car lines. They were walking against traffic and parents and adults were walking off the streets and just taking students out of the car line without checking in," said Carroll.

School deputies clocked some cars going 40mph in a school zone, according to Superintendent Dr. Kamela Patton. There's even more cars on the road now that we are in season. Dr. Patton says these changes were made in the students' best interest.

"We trust the principal to do what is best for the student.," added Carroll.
