PUNTA GORDA, Fla. - An arrest has been made in the homicide of a 75 year old Tropical Gulf Acres man that occurred back in November. Charged with Second Degree Murder was 35 year old Michael Sheeley.

Sheeley has been in the Charlotte County Jail since Nov. 18 when he was arrested for Grand Theft, Dealing in Stolen Property, Fraudulent Use of Credit Cards, and False Verification of Ownership, all related to the homicide case.

On November 17th at approximately 8:30 p.m. deputies responded to a medical call reporting that the victim, 75 year old Duane Fenner was found breathing but unresponsive by his daughter in his home at Gucci Drive. Fenner was transported to Charlotte Regional Medical Center by EMS. The victim’s daughter told detectives that his car and some jewelry were missing from the home, which triggered an immediate investigation by the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation suggested the victim had been subjected to some form of violence that resulted in his incapacitated state. On November 24 the victim died at the hospital. Through post-mortem examination it was substantiated that the victim sustained trauma to his throat area resulting in his death.

Sheeley was linked to the charges by physical and documentary evidence, and statements made in the course of interviews by detectives. Today, after an extensive investigation by detectives, and the Office of the State Attorney, Sheeley was formally charged with Second Degree Murder.  He is being held at the Charlotte County Jail on no bond, pending further court action.
