Verzi pleads not guilty to Cape Coral murder
FORT MYERS, Fla. - A not guilty plea was entered for 17-year-old Baron Verzi at his arraignment this morning in the murder of his father, 69-year-old Thomas Verzi.
The plea was entered by Verzi's attorney, the teenager who is being held with no bond was not in court.
Detectives say Baron murdered his father by stabbing him to death at their Cape Coral home on December 17.
According to a probable cause affidavit, officers say Baron's brother in Orlando, Thomas Verzi, Jr., called police to check on his father's well-being. They say Thomas, Jr. described Baron as acting strange and said Baron told him "dad was dead". Investigators entered the house and found Thomas Verzi, Sr. in the family room lying in a pool of blood.
