PUNTA GORDA, Fla. - A Charlotte County detective took part in some gator wrangling on New Year's Eve at the Punta Gorda Airport.

Airport security became concerned about a seven-foot alligator approaching the main runway.

Detective Justin Treworgy responded and found the reptile about 30 feet away from the runway and making a beeline for it.

The detective got the gator re-routed and with an assist from an FWC officer and airport security Treworgy snuck up on the gator and got his hands around its mouth.

Once the gator’s mouth was taped shut it was then turned over to the FWC officers to relocate in another area, far away from the airport.
