Punta Gorda woman accused of using debit card
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Charlotte County detectives arrested a 25-year-old Punta Gorda woman on 15 charges of criminal use of identification theft, fraudulent use of a credit card and petty theft.
Investigators say Tiquisha Devona Bennett used the stolen debit card belonging to a Port Charlotte woman to make several purchases.
The victim reported the theft at the end of December after seeing five transactions on her debit card that was stolen from her purse. She reported she and Bennett went to Winn Dixie on Dec. 26; she used her debit card and noticed Bennett standing close to her watching her type in her PIN number. The woman told detectives she has custody of Bennett’s children due to her drug habit and invited Bennett into her home to visit the kids for the holidays.
On Dec. 27 the woman said she attempted to use her debit card but it was not in her purse.
Detectives said there were five separate charges made at Winn-Dixie, 7-11, Advanced Auto Parts, Rainbow Food Market and Publix totaling $356 after the card was stolen. Detectives obtained surveillance video that clearly showed Bennett using the stolen card at an ATM machine withdrawing cash.
Bennett was arrested early Friday morning and taken to the Charlotte County Jail.
