Alex checks out replica warship on Fort Myers Beach
FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. - Fox 4 Rising's Alex Butler checks out the Lynx: America's Privateer. It's a 122-foot replica of a war of 1812 ship, arriving in Southwest Florida for the first time since it was built and launched in 2001. The 114 ton boat is a replica of a Navy schooner from the War of 1812. It took 25 men a little over a year to build.
Fitted with period pennants and flags, even the crew wears period dress, especially when the ship is used as a teaching tool for local schools in different ports as part of the Lynx Educational Foundation.
The ship was also used to train the cast and crew of Pirates of the Caribbean.
You can go on Sailaways with the ship or take tours. For information on ticket sales call 866-446-5969 or check out their website: www.privateerlynx.com
