Cape Coral police make arrest in deadly stabbing
CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Cape Coral police arrested a 17-year-old in the stabbing death of his father today.
The investigation began when Thomas Verzi, Jr. of Orlando called police concerned about his father, Thomas Verzi, Sr and his 17-year-old brother. Verzi said his brother was acting strange during a phone call.
Police arrived at 1134 SW 16th Terrace and found the teenager covered in blood and stab wounds to his arm and leg. Then 69-year-old Thomas Verzi, Sr. was found dead on the floor of the family room in a pool of blood.
The teen was taken to the Cape Coral Hospital for treatment of his injuries where he confessed to the crime to detectives. He told detectives he killed his father after a morning argument, then went for a drive and returned home and began stabbing himself.
The teenage son is charged with 2nd degree murder and was taken to Lee County's Juvenile Detention Facility. FOX 4 News is not naming the suspect if and until he is charged as an adult.
