Final audit for Medstar
FORT MYERS, Fla.---Three and a half months after Medstar was grounded The clerk of courts office has now issued their final audit.
They found a series of problems which led to the meltdown of Medstar.
Auditors interviewed 25 of Medstar's current and former employees, along with management at the county's public safety office.
Essentially they found the entire EMS program needs to be overhauled in order to ensure better employee morale and compliance with federal regulations.
The report states Medstar improperly billed patients $433,000 because the medical helicopter didn't have the required FAA certification.
Also, the FAA continues to investigate and Medstar officials may face federal fines and possibly Civil and Criminal charges.
The audit warns the county's entire EMS department is now at risk of imploding if major changes are not made.
