U.S. Coast Guard returns to Florida with major cocaine haul

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - Crewmembers aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Tampa offloaded more than 75 bales of cocaine at Port Canaveral in Cape Canaveral, Fla., Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012. The crew of the Tampa recovered the narcotics, worth an estimated $55 million, from the water off Panama after the suspected drug smugglers jettisoned the contraband in an attempt to flee law enforcement. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - The U.S. Coast Guard off loaded 75 bales of cocaine today. The drugs were seized by the Coast Guard Cutter Tampa from the water of the Caribbean Sea off the coast of Panama.
The bales were thrown from a ship trying to flee the Coast Guard. The cocaine weighed 2.6 tons with a street value of $55 million.
