U.S. Coast Guard returns to Florida with major cocaine haul

  • CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - Crewmembers aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Tampa offloaded more than 75 bales of cocaine at Port Canaveral in Cape Canaveral, Fla., Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - The U.S. Coast Guard off loaded 75 bales of cocaine today.  The drugs were  seized by the Coast Guard Cutter Tampa from the water of the Caribbean Sea off the coast of Panama.

The bales were thrown from a ship trying to flee the Coast Guard.  The cocaine weighed 2.6 tons with a street value of $55 million.
