Mother tearful after police announce they have son's killer in custody
FT. MYERS, Fla. - The mother of a slain man is thankful after Ft. Myers Police and FDLE obtain an arrest warrant for the man they believe killed Robin Burton's son, Travis.
Travis Burton was gunned down in February while he was sitting on his front porch on Pauldo Street in Ft. Myers.
Wednesday, police announced they obtained an arrest warrant for Dietrich Wilcox, 35, of Ft. Myers. Wilcox is currently in jail on federal drug and gun charges.
"I am happy because the detectives took the time out to solve my baby's case," Robin Burton said, standing at her son's grave.
She wants the public to come forward if they have information that can help police solve murders.
"Anytime you can clear a homicide and solve it with an arrest, and be able to tell the family and the victim's mother that we made an arrest," Fort Myers Police Det. Sgt. Brian O'Reilly said. "It's a wonderful thing."
"What do you want to tell the community, because they're frustrated that more of these things aren't solved?" Hogan asked O'Reilly.
"We work on these cases all the time, non-stop, 24 hours a day , 7 days a week," O'Reilly said. "We have a lot of dedicated detectives that turn over every rock."
For her part, Burton said she prays for the police and asks the community to come forward with tips.
"We got to forgive and forget and help each other," she said.
