Man arrested for string of Cape Coral burglaries
CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Cape Coral police arrested a 43-year-old man suspected in dozens of burglaries around the city.
Detectives arrested Michael Scott Spees a week ago after tying to a handful of crimes. Further investigation tied Spees to numerous home break-ins across Cape Coral.
In all Spees faces 14 counts of burglary, 13 counts of grand theft and 6 counts of criminal mischief and false information to a pawnbroker.
Spees has a long criminal history.
Neighbors like Susan Davison say, "It's scary because I was told it's a very quiet neighborhood, very safe."
Others like Velvet Frazzetto agree, "It's very disappointing, everybody's hurting."
Officers say catching Spees came down to old-fashioned police work. "Putting together the pattern of what has been happening over the past couple of weeks, getting with our crime anyalyst, we were able to put together a list of suspects," said Tony Sizemore, the spokesman for the department. "Fortunately, our witnesses were able to identify the suspect."
