Convicted felon grabs Arcadia woman's purse
DEEP CREEK, Fla. - Charlotte County detectives arrested a 50-year-old Charlotte County man for stealing a purse out of an elderly couple's car at a gas station in the Deep Creek area.
Tony Curtis "Pops" Goforth is charged with burglary to a conveyance, grand theft and fraudulent use of a credit card.
Deputies responded to a call on the morning of November 14th when an 80-year-old woman from Arcadia discovered that her purse had been stolen from the floor of their car.
Her husband gave deputies a description of a possible suspect, the vehicle and the license plate tag number of the car he was in at the time.
The couple later notified deputies that one of her credit cards had been used at a nearby Shell gas station. Surveillance video confirmed the same vehicle at the Shell station.
Detectives managed to track the suspect down a recreation center that he frequents and people their identified surveillance photos as Goforth.
Detectives went to Goforth’s home and arrested him for the purse theft and related charges. Goforth denied being at Murphy’s or using the credit card at the Shell station, even after being told of the surveillance and witnesses statements. He was transported to the Charlotte County Jail where he remains on no bond due to being a convicted felon.
