Port Charlotte man arrested for striking firefighter with shovel
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - A Port Charlotte man will face felony charges for striking a Charlotte County firefighter in the head with a shovel. Fortunately the firefighter was wearing his helmet at the time.
The incident happened on Friday where Charlotte County deputies arrested 44-year-old Gregory Sean Turner.
Investigators say firefighters responded to a fire call in the backyard of Turner's home. As a Charlotte County Fire Lieutenant walked around the house Turner came out yelling profanities, ordering him off the property.
A fire was burning involving several household items. Turner was advised it was an illegal burn and a fire hose was brought out. Turner came after the Lieutenant with a shovel and managed to strike him in the head despite getting knocked down by a spray of water from the hose. Eventually a deputy tasered Turner and handcuffed him.
Turner is charged with aggravated battery on a firefighter with a deadly weapon and preventing or obstructing extinguishment of a fire. He remains in jail on $27,500 bond.
