Floridians now look to Christmas
LEE COUNTY, Fla. - Black Friday is not just about getting those shopping deals. Four In Your Corner's Kelli Stegeman found out it is also about preparation for the next holiday, Christmas!
"What is this right here?" Stegeman asked 3-year-old Tyler Hammel. "A Christmas tree." He responds. He helped pick out that tree on Friday.
"It's just a tradition we always do," his mom, Krista Hammel, said. "We like to get ready for Christmas and have Christmas set up so its not just gone away right after December. It's up the whole month of December and a little bit of November."
Their family is not alone. Al Huntley of Trees Are Us says Christmas tree sales rocket after Thanksgiving.
"They come out every year, same lot, same people, and they pick out a tree and they all come as a family," Huntley said.
Tyler's brothers say they looked for the tree with the brightest green color.
But don't forget those outside lights. If anyone knows about a glowing display, it is Neil Monkman.
"We're going to do our test run tonight, Friday," Monkman said. "If everything goes ok we'll be up running tomorrow (Saturday) night."Usually Santa Claus shows up just about every night and sometimes he gets up on the roof and he dances a little bit."
Every year, Monkman gives donations to a certain charity. This year the money will go to law enforcement K-9 units. Some units just don't have the money to protect the dogs and the donations will help them buy things like bullet and stab-proof vests for the dogs.
