NAPLES, Fla.- Several protests were planned against retailer giant, Walmart, on Black Friday throughout the United States. States like Minnesota, Kentucky and Florida saw protests.

Fox 4 caught up with a handful of protesters outside the Walmart on Tamiami Trail East in Naples. Demonstrators from Occupy Naples handed out fliers and tried to convince customers to boycott Walmart. They held signs saying "Full-time work shouldn't be poverty" and "Low wages everyday."

The group demanded higher wages and better benefits for Walmart workers.

"People should think really carefully about where they spend their money this holiday season. We can support our local economy or we can support big national corporations," said Ellen Hemrick, Naples Occupy.

Some of those demonstrations nationwide were organized by the United Food and Commercial Workers Union and another group called Our Walmart. The group had anticipated 1,000 protests across the country.

In a statement Walmart tells Fox 4 "The number of protests being reported by the UFCW are grossly exaggerated...It was proven last night – and again today – that the OUR Walmart group doesn’t speak for the 1.3 million Walmart associates. We had our best Black Friday ever and OUR Walmart was unable  to recruit more than a small number of associates to participate in these made for TV events... the large majority of protesters aren’t even Walmart workers."
