Deadly crash on Alligator Alley in Collier County
COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. - A woman driving westbound on Alligator Alley was killed herself and her passenger seriously injured in a single car crash Thanksgiving Day.
The Florida Highway Patrol says the 51-year-old New Port Richey woman died on the scene in the crash just after 4 p.m. It happened near mile marker 76. The FHP is not releasing her identity pending notification of next of kin.
The passenger, 58-year-old Lesly La Fond, was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
Both the woman and La Fond were wearing their seat belts.
The car hit the emergency lane on the north shoulder when the driver over-corrected sending the car across both westbound lanes into the grass median where it overturned several times rolling across eastbound I-75 before coming to rest on its roof against the fence.
