Get ready for tourist season in Southwest Florida
LEE COUNTY, Fla. - Thanksgiving is also the the first of the peak tourism holidays.
That means more tourists and snowbirds coming down to Southwest Florida.
Last year was a record breaker with nearly 10% more tourist visiting Lee County. And that trend is expected to continue.
Snowbird season is getting off the ground as well.
The Cape Coral Chamber of Commerce president expects a 3 to 4% increase in winter residents this year, but he's worried something could put a damper on that projection.
"The only concern I have is from the [Hurricane] Sandy and if that is going to diminish the people coming down from the eastern seaboard," says Quaintance.
And interestingly -- the busiest travel day at Southwest Florida International will be Sunday, fittingly enough, because more tourist will be coming down, along with Southwest Floridians returning from the Thanksgiving holiday.
