ENGLEWOOD EAST, Fla. - Charlotte County detectives arrested an Englewood East woman for stabbing a man Tuesday afternoon.

35-year-old Melissa Joanne Hughell is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Deputies responded to a call regarding a stabbing at the intersection of Kidron Avenue and Flintlock Street.  The victim was transported by Bayflight helicopter to Lee Memorial Hospital with a stab wound to the abdomen.

Detectives said the victim was visiting Hughell at her home where she and the victim got into an argument. Hughell told the victim to leave; there were two other men in her home who assisted Hughell in removing the victim from her home.

A neighbor said she observed the disturbance and saw the two men run after the victim; one was armed with a baseball bat. The witness said she saw the two men catch up to the victim and beat him with the bat causing serious injury.

Hughell walked to the intersection and found the victim lying on the ground. The victim managed to stand up and Hughell pulled a knife from her pocket and stabbed him. Hughell then left the victim lying in the street and returned her home without calling CCSO or EMS. The victim did manage to walk to a home on Kidron Avenue where he received first aid until deputies and EMS arrived.

Hughell was arrested and is in the Charlotte County Jail held on no bond.  Detectives are still looking to find the two other men involved in the case.
