Charlotte State bank & trust saves 64 Lives
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.—Employees of Charlotte State Bank & Trust are being recognized for a highly successful blood drive held at the bank’s Port Charlotte office Friday. The bank hosted the Big Red Bus from Florida’s Blood Centers (FBC), registering 25 donors and collecting 22 units of blood. Because lifesaving donations are separated into red cells, plasma and platelets for specific transfusion purposes, 64 local lives were saved or sustained by this blood drive.
Employees also had the option of donating by a special process in which they can give two units of red blood cells during one blood donation. This doubles the impact to local hospital patients, possibly a victim of an emergency or trauma.
All blood donors at the Nov. 2 blood drive received a free movie ticket and free Chick-fil-A sandwich coupon.
According to Blair Lovejoy, donor development coordinator for FBC, the next blood drive is scheduled for Dec. 28, at the bank’s Port Charlotte office. During that drive, donors will receive two movie passes for giving blood during the holidays when supplies are strained.
Florida’s Blood Centers is the community’s blood center, providing a safe and adequate blood supply to local hospitals. FBC is the sole supplier of blood and blood products to more than 70 hospitals and healthcare facilities in 21 Florida counties.
