FORT MYERS, Fla. - Lee County Supervisor of Election Sharon Harrington apologized for Tuesday's election nightmare that plagued numerous polling places.

Voters waited for hours on ends to cast their ballots.  Six hour waits in parts of Cape Coral were not uncommon.  Problems also occurred on Sanibel, Pine Island and in Fort Myers.

Harrington complained about a lack of flexibility for early voting locations and made a plea for more money to purchase more optical scanners to count the votes.

The lack of scanners and a long ballot led to the lines.  The four page ballot in particular caused much of the problem.

Harrington said she doesn't blame the Lee County Commission for a lack of funding because she said she failed to ask for the additional funding needed to buy the equipment.

Harrington also said she has no plans to resign and that there was no intentional effort to suppress the vote.
