Punta Gorda bank robbery suspect arrested in Tampa
PUNTA GORDA, Fla. - Charlotte County detectives arrested a suspect wanted in the robbery of the Sun Trust Bank at 18501 Murdock Circle last Thursday.
51-year-old Robin Patrick Conte was arrested in Tampa in Sunday for the bank robbery and for the armed robbery of the Asian Cai Lay Market in Charlotte County.
Detectives developed Conte as the prime suspect after interviewing witnesses and viewing the bank and area business surveillance videos. Conte entered SunTrust sporting a goatee, wearing a hat backwards, sunglasses, a jacket, pants and a red tee shirt. He demanded cash and then fled with an undetermined amount of money. A witness saw the robber leave the bank and get on a very small electric scooter. The scooter was recovered nearby along with the robber’s jacket that he discarded.
The investigation led to information that Conte was in Tampa General Hospital for medical treatment. The U.S. Marshal Task Force in Tampa found Conte and arrested him. He will eventually be taken to the Charlotte County Jail.
