PUNTA GORDA, Fla. - A Charlotte County deputy arrested a Port Charlotte man after a traffic stop when he spotted him swallowing crack cocaine.

60-year-old Willen Arie Perniak was arrested for ppossession of crack cocaine, tampering with evidence and obstruction of justice.

Tuesday night the deputy spotted a green Ford Explorer parked at a known Punta Gorda drug house.  The deputy ran the plates and determined they were expired. As the deputy approached the driver Perniak, he noticed him moving his tongue like he was pushing something up in his cheek and would not open his mouth much to talk.

Perniak was ordered to spit out the wrapper and he complied; the deputy asked if it was crack and he said yes.  EMS was called to evaluate Perniak and transported him to Charlotte Regional Medical Center where blood and urine samples were taken. Perniak's urine tested positive for crack cocaine.

Perniak remains in jail on $6,000.
