Renagade monkey finally caught in Tampa
TAMPA - It was a good swing through the trees, but one of the Bay area's most notorious primates has finally been nabbed.
The so-called 'mystery monkey of Tampa Bay' has been caught.
The macaque eluded capture for at least a year, settling into a quiet life in Pinellas County.
But the search for him was stepped up two weeks ago after he bit a woman in St. Petersburg on her back and neck.
A three-hour stakeout led to the monkey's capture.
He had been showing up in the same spot each day at the same time, so it was just a matter of waiting for a chance to hit him with a tranquilizer dart.
For now, the monkey will stay at the animal hospital.
