NAPLES, Fla.- The Salvation Army of Collier County began taking applications to assist families during the holidays including Thanksgiving and Christmas. The non-profit will accept 1,500 applications this year on a first come, first served basis.

Michelle Pickard is filling an application out on Monday morning to get help. She is a single mom and came with her dad since she just sold her car to pay for rent.

"I can't do it on my own and I am so thankful we have Salvation Army to come and help us out. I'm not the only family here," said Pickard.

By 10:00am on Monday, more than 200 people were in line. The Salvation Army is taking applications over a 3 day period(Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday). Those who sign up will get toys for Christmas and food for Thanksgiving.

"It helped me out alot. It is nice to see kids open presents Christmas morning," said Stephanie Garcia.

Stephanie Garcia has needed help from the non-profit for several years. If it wasn't for the non-profit, holidays would not be possible.

"I have 3 kids and I'm the only one working right now and I'm taking care of my best friend and her 2 kids. I need all the help I can get at this moment," said Garcia.

Last holiday season, more than 10,000 people received gifts, toys and food.

"It means a lot. Something I can't give them. Somebody else can."
