Deputy involved shooting in East Naples
EAST NAPLES, Fla. - A Collier County deputy shot a reportedly armed man found drinking beer at the 7-Eleven at Estey Avenue and Airport Pulling Road just before 9 a.m.
A concerned citizen called deputies after he spotted a suspicious man who appeared to have a gun drinking beer and sitting near a dumpster on the property.
Deputies found the man and reportedly saw what they believed to be a firearm. Investigators say the man threatened the deputies and one of the deputies shot the man.
The shooting victim was first taken to Naples Community Hospital before being transported to Lee Memorial in Fort Myers.
The identity of the man, described as an older white male, has not been released.
The CCSO Major Crimes Bureau is investigating. A parallel administrative investigation is being conducted per agency policy. Once the Major Crimes Bureau investigation is complete it will be forwarded to the State Attorney’s Office for review. In accordance with agency policy, the two deputies at the scene have been placed on administrative leave.
