Trick no treat for Port Charlotte mother now behind bars
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Charlotte County detectives are building an abuse case against a 40-year-old Port Charlotte mother of three.
While Susan Christine Warner was taking her teenage daughter to Orlando last weekend for Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios, a neighbor of Warner's came upon a house of horrors when she went to their home.
Warner's 10-year-old daughter had gone to the neighbor Sunday night complaining about being hungry. The neighbor went to the home and found it in deplorable conditions. Besides the mess inside was a three-year-old sister and their 87-year-old bedridden great-grandmother lying in a urine soaked bed.
Warner is now charged with child neglect and one count of neglect of an elderly person.
Deputies found the home full of garbage, bugs, dog feces and a horrible smell. Only one bathroom was working in the home but the toilet was blocked by impassable piles of clothes along with soiled baby diapers.
In the guest bedroom, the 87 year old great-grandmother was found lying in bed with the stench of urine. Deputies learned she had fallen four days before, urinated in her bed and was very confused. EMS was called and transported her to Fawcett Memorial Hospital where she was admitted.
The DCF turned all three children over to relatives. Warner is in the Charlotte County Jail held on no bond.
