WFTX -  Going into their second debate, a new national poll from Real Clear Politics shows President Obama and Mitt Romney locked in a virtual dead heat.

And a new Washington Post-ABC news poll shows the first presidential debate shifted opinions favorably for Romney while leaving opinions of the President largely unchanged.

That same poll shows about one in eight likely voters remain undecided.

"It is a very small amount of undecided voters left, so what both sides right now are going to be firing up base," says one political analyst.

Focusing on debate preparations - both candidates are now off the campaign trail until they meet for the debate in New York.

You can expect both candiates to be back on the campaign trial right after the debate - probably spening more time in the swing state of Ohio.

"Ohio has been correct 27 of last 29 elections; they picked the president.," says political science professor Larry Sabato.

Ades for the President say he'll be bolder in this next debate than he was during the first debate.

"He's going to be aggressive in making the case for his view of where we should go as a country.  And a country that's built around a growing, thriving middle class," says Obama strategist David Plouffe.

Republicans are already tearing the President down ahead of the debate.

"Whatever political tactic the president settles on as being in his best interest for the debate, he can't change his record and can't change his policies,"says Republican Ed Gillespie.

The men take to the stage at 9pm and you can watch the debate live on Fox 4.
