Meningitis outbreak toll: 184 cases in 12 state
WASHINGTON (AP) - Federal health officials are reporting 15 new cases of fungal meningitis.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the outbreak has now sickened 184 people in a dozen states. Fourteen people have died.
The latest state reporting cases it Texas. Others include Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, and Virginia.
The outbreak has been linked to steroid shots used for back pain made by a specialty pharmacy in Massachusetts. The medication has been recalled.
