Fake cash being passed at Cape businesses
CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Passing Fake Cash? A surveillance video shows a young woman buying a coke at Jet's Pizza in Cape Coral late Wednesday afternoon.
She paid for the soda with a $20 dollar bill and the employee checks to see if it's real. But after the customer leaves, the employee checks the 20 dollar bill again and senses something just isn't right. The pizza shop manager says he was notified of the sketchy bill.
"After she left he noticed something funny about the bill, it felt funny so he brought it to my attention he thought it may be fake,' said Joe Kefer.
So, they used a special counterfeit marker on the twenty to see if it was real and according to the test, it was. But, then they took a much closer look.
"It didn't have the hologram of the face in the right hand corner nor did it have the strip that says twenty," said Kefer.
The police were called and began to ask other businesses in the plaza if they too had been scammed. They weren't surprised by what they found. 2 other businesses were victimized.
Rib City told us the same story. A young woman ordered a small drink and paid for it with a bogus 20 dollar bill. According to the police report, a nearby liquor store may also have been fooled.
