Cat crisis at Lee County Animal Shelter
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Lee County Domestic Animal Services is asking the public to step up and adopt.
Its shelter is facing an overcrowding crisis, especially for cats. The problem started during the summer months and is continuing into the fall.
The shelter currently has more than 260 cats including 100 in foster care that are ready to come back to the shelter for adoption. Meanwhile as many as ten to 20 new cats and three to four litters arrive daily.
The agency wants to remind the public of its current adoption promotions. All pets are just $14.92 in celebration of Columbus Day through this Saturday. During the rest of October all pet adoption fees are half off the regular fee.
Adoption hours are Monday through Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The shelter sits at 5600 Banner Drive, Fort Myers, just off Six Mile Cypress Parkway.
