FORT MYERS, Fla - Police have identified the victims of an early morning shooting in Fort Myers as 34-year-old Michelle Fletcher and 21-year-old Quayshun Lewis.
Both are listed in serious condition.
The call came in at 4:22 am as a car accident.
When police arrived, they found Lewis and Fletcher shot in a car on Winkler Avenue Extension near the Brittany Apartments.
Lewis had just been released from jail -- his eighth stint behind bars.
"It raises our curiosity since you're out of jail and not even an hour later, you're victim of a shooting,
" says Fort Myers Police Captain Jim Mulligan.
Lewis is on the FMPD violent offenders list, in the company of those -- police say -- are causing the most harm to the community.
Mulligan says past history, previous arrests for homicide, violence, guns, drugs and assaults are all factors police look at when placing offenders on the list.
FMPD also beefing the violent crimes task force.
"We've upped the manpower in it to address the violent crime issues," adds Mulligan.
He says most offenders know they're being watched.
And police want them to know they're there.
FMPD says officers have stopped significant amounts of violent crime, confiscating 250 guns this year alone.
"And with the guns, come arrests, " says Mulligan.
Police say it's working.
"We have arrested some significant people on the list. We're waiting on prosecution to go through on the federal or state level," adds Mulligan.
Police don't know much about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
They have not been able to interview the victims yet.
Of course they'd like to talk to any one with information.
