Golf cart assault lands Port Charlotte man in jail
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - A verbal fight between two men in Port Charlotte ended when one man used his golf cart to run down his neighbor.
Deputies arrested 53-year-old Carl Travis Martin, Jr. for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, resisting an officer and driving on a suspended or revoked license.
The dispute started Saturday evening between two men. The 46-year-old victim told deputies that Martin got in his golf cart and said he was going to drive him over.
The victim says Martin got in his golf cart and hit him. Deputies say scrapes, scratches and bruising on the man who refused to go to the hospital.
Two neighbors verified his account and deputies then went to Martin’s home asking him what happened; Martin at first said, “nothing,” then said the victim may have been struck when he went to turn his golf cart around to go home.
Deputies arrested Martin who posted a $6,000 bond.
