NAPLES, Fla.- The Collier County Sheriff's office is asking for the public's help to find a man detectives say snatched a parrot. Surveillance video shows a man stuffing a parrot up his shirt and leaving without paying at the Pet Supermarket on Tamiami Trail East in Naples.

Patrick Donehey works at Genemmys Bird paradise, another pet store in Naples, and can't understand why anyone would steal a bird.

"Maybe, he just did not know the value. I mean I don't know what was behind this man's thinking maybe he just wanted a bird and decided this was the one because it was easy access," said Patrick Donehey, Manager at Genemmys Bird Paradise.

Patrick works off Airport Pulling Road just 3 miles away from where the bird theft happened. He sells exotic birds. Some cost more than $3,000 dollars, but the parrot snatched at the another pet store only costs $380.

"If it moves out of the area, obviously, it would be harder to find, but for a bird to randomly show up and not be noticed by friends, neighbors, relatives, be very difficult to hide," said Sgt. Brian Sawyer with the Collier County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators say a steal like this is not common, but if caught you can be charged with grand theft and face fines and up to 5 years in prison.

Anyone with any information is ask to call the Sheriff's Office at (239) 252-9300 or to remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).
