East Lee County High student arrested for carrying gun to school
FORT MYERS, Fla. - An 18-year-old student at East Lee County High School was arrested Wednesday for bringing a 45 caliber handgun to school.
A corporal assigned to the school received a tip Wednesday morning that a student may be carrying a firearm on campus.
The student was tracked down and questioned. A search of a book bag uncovered a weapon.
Marcus Burger told a detective he had simply found the bag and did not know who the bag belonged to. He also stated that he didn't know there was a gun inside the bag.
Investigators found papers belonging to Burger and a text book belonging to his brother in the bag.
School security footage showed Burger bringing the bag to the school and that no one else had the bag.
Burger was arrested and charged with one count of possession of a firearm on school grounds.
