NFL reaches tentative agreement with refs
WFTX - Veteran NFL officials are gearing up to take the field.
Since June, the league and the referees' union have been at odds, but now a tentative deal has been struck.
League Commissioner Roger Goodell released a statement that reads in part... "We appreciate the commitment of the NFLRA in working through the issues to reach this important agreement..."
The veteran officials were replaced with less experienced referees for the first three weeks of games.
Many say the substitute ref's lacked the ability to keep up with the fast-pace of the NFL.
A series of questionable calls were capped off during the monday night match up between the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks.
Hall of fame quarterback fran tarkenton suggests the replacement referees might have created more mayhem and less order.
"There's no respect by the players for these officials ... Coaches don't respect these officials and it makes the game chaotic."
The deal must be ratified by 51 percent of the union's 121 members.
A vote is expected take place on Friday.
