Port Charlotte man arrested for sexual battery on a 3 year old
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Charlotte County detectives arrested 34-year-old Stephen Francis Callaghan on charges of Sexual Battery on a Victim Under 12 years of Age on Tuesday.
Last June the mother of a three-year-old girl filed a form complaint after the child told her mother that Callaghan had put his “private” on her “bum.”
The mother asked Callaghan, who is related to the girl, about what the girl had said, but he told her there must have been some sort of misunderstanding.
During the investigation, the child was interviewed by a Child Forensic Interviewer. The child provided information that indicated she had been sexually battered by Callaghan rubbing his penis (private) on both her buttocks (bum) and her vaginal area while both she and Callaghan were naked. The girls said she did not like it when Callaghan did this to her.
On Tuesday September 25, detectives located Callaghan at his residence. He was transported to the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit where he was placed under arrest for sexual battery. He is being held in the Charlotte County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
