Viewers react to Cape city manager wanting to add staff
CAPE CORAL, Fla. - $100,000 for an assistant Cape Coral city manager?
That's what new city manager John Szerlag wants. He also wants to reinstate or add almost 40 new jobs to the city's rolls. That has other city officials wondering where the money's gonna come from.
The city hasn't had an assistant city manager for almost two years. Ousted former city manager Gary King left the position open to save money. Szerlag's request for additional staff comes less than a year after the city negotiated pay cuts from nearly every city worker.
That's not sitting well with many of you, who are sounding off on our Viewer's Voice line.
David texting in: "The City of Cape Coral DOESN'T need to add jobs after laying people off and cutting salarys."
Doug from Cape Coral calling in: "These are city politicians not congressmen or senators. I think they should spend the money more towards the police and firemen, the people that protect the city."
