CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Cape Coral is changing its image.  The city's economic development office is beginning a head on campaign to bring new residents and new business to southwest Florida's largest city.

It all began today with the unveiling of a billboard on the North Fort Myers - Cape Coral line.  Bottom line, local officials want the cape recognized just as much as other large cities in Florida.

Cape Coral's new marketing slogan is open for business. They will be advertising outside the city on 16 signs throughout Lee County.

Lamar Advertising is donating $16,000 worth of advertising for the Cape every month.  Taxpayers are not footing the bill.  There are high hopes for this new campaign.

“We went thru some tough times and we're trying to recover and part of that recovery is increasing our commercial tax base, increasing jobs new investment and part of that is reaching out and letting people know were here and were open for business.” Dana Brunett said.

The  billboard reads “The largest city between Tampa and Miami”.  The advertising campaign will continue for one year.
