Watchful neighbors help nab Charlotte County burglar

GROVE CITY, Fla. - Charlotte County deputies arrested a home burglar Wednesday thanks to an alert neighbor.
Early in the morning the neighbor spotted a man standing inside a home he was watching in Grove City while the owners were out of state.
Deputies arrived and spotted a man running and a foot pursuit ended up in a wooded area.
Deputies arrested 26-year-old Joshua Kane Merrell of North Port after the neighbor positively identified Merrill as the man he saw in the garage.
Detectives were called to investigate the burglary and found a side garage door window was smashed, however Merrill denied entering the garage. Nothing at this time has been reported stolen as the owners are still in Indiana. Merrill was transported to the Charlotte County Jail and charged with Burglary to a Dwelling; this is his fourth booking. He remains in jail on $2,500 bond.
