If you've driven around southwest Florida, you've seen those red light cameras. You may have even gotten a ticket because of one. Now more cities are putting those same cameras, on stop signs.
The nation's capital is following the lead of California, where photo enforced stop signs have been raking in the dough.

Washington DC is gearing up to install 16 stop sign cameras by the end of the year, mostly at intersections near schools.

Officials are trying to catch drivers who do rolling stops or completely blow through stops signs.

Violators will be fined 50 bucks if they're caught on camera. But the plan is drawing mixed opinions.

“If it's something not posted or people are not aware of it and they didn't announce it and kind of just put it there, it's kind of misleading.”

“People go through stop signs like they don't exist so I think it's a good idea.”

Before the cameras are installed, DC officials say they'll give residents a 30-day warning period to make sure they know the cameras are there.

So far, there are no plans in the works to bring these kinds of cameras to southwest Florida.
