Punta Gorda residents wearing red to protest the proposed 18 percent millage rate hike from last year.
City leaders want to raise it from 2.8824 mills to 3.2462 mills.
But officials are calling this necessary to make up for a shortfall in the budget.
The meeting is still underway, with such a big turnout that people are lined up outside the door. A vote will come down from city council tonight on whether to adopt the millage rate.
