FORT MYERS, Fla. - A dump truck overturned on westbound Palm Beach Boulevard at I-75 this morning closing the busy roadway just after 6 a.m.

Because of the large amount of diesel fuel spilled on the roadway only one lane eastbound is open.  Crews will have to resurface five of the six lanes in order to clear the roadway of fuel.  That work will take most of today.

The FHP says the dump truck was heading westbound with its bed in the upright position when it hit a traffic signal flipping the truck over.  The truck was traveling at such a high rate of speed it not only hit the traffic signal but it knocked down a highway sign connected to the bridge, flipping the cab of the truck up, scraping the underside of the bridge.

The accident caused at least $20,000 damage to the truck.  The driver, 40-year-old Michael David Maness of Labelle, could face traffic charges.
